Our man in the south

The Lund-office, where Fredrik Önnerfors spends his days, is located next to the impressive 1200-century cathedral. Fredrik has recently joined to be responsible for LegalWorks’ offering in the southern part of Sweden.

Fredrik is one of our business-minded legal counsels. He has more than 15 years of experience both from a leading law firm and as in-house counsel. A large part of this legal career he has worked with IT and Telecom, but he has also experience from more traditional industry. For several years he was the General Counsel of the Fristads Kansas group, Europe’s largest provider of professional wear. When he took the leap to start his own legal practice last year, it was a very natural step for him to join LegalWorks, as both his background and his plans for the future were very well matched with those of the LegalWorks team.

A difference between the legal landscape in Skåne and e.g. Stockholm is that rather few companies have their own in-house legal function, and the traditional law firms are therefore often involved also in day to day legal matters, such as business agreements and everyday corporate housekeeping matters. While they are no doubt qualified to do so, the experienced former in-house counsel can add value by bringing a risk-based and business-minded approach which may be more efficient, both with respect to lead times, cost and quality of the result.

Traditional suppliers excel at managing projects and matters that are outside the core business of a company (such as e.g. M&A and disputes), while tapping into the pragmatism and business sense an experienced in-house counsel has acquired over the years makes a lot more sense for handling everyday matters arising in a company. This is where Fredrik is determined to make a difference, primarily in the innovative and booming Malmö-Lund region, by providing pragmatic advice based on thorough experience from what life is like on the inside.
