Meet two of them
Louise Wendel
Tell us about your background?
I am a typical corporate lawyer and thus very much a generalist, there are often very different issues that arise in a company and you must therefore have knowledge in many different areas. With a background as a senior lawyer and in recent years as general counsel, my experience is that the law itself is often secondary, being an effective and skilled problem solver who quickly sees the whole picture and the company's needs is what is most important and where the customer sees results. With my long experience from Swedish and international companies both small and large, where we have made several acquisitions and other transactions, it is however also a little fun to sometimes get bogged down in the law, but if specialist knowledge is required, fortunately, lawyers are available.
Why have you chosen to work as an independent consultant?
It’s something I’ve been thinking about for some time, but I haven’t really been brave enough to take the plunge. When I left my last job, I had time to think and plan for the first time in a long time and I decided it was time. I haven’t regretted my decision, even though there are some things to consider when starting your own company. The reason I am happy with my decision is that it is stimulating and fun to work with several different customers in different industries. Curiosity is something that drives me and to be able to work in a completely new industry, learn new things and meet new people, even if it is often for a limited time, is super fun.
Important to you in your working life career?
That I can control my own time, I am happy to sit on the customer’s premises, but it is good to have some flexibility as I currently have several parallel assignments.
Challenges or goals in sight?
My goal when I started as a consultant just over a year ago was to run for two years and then evaluate my decision. As it looks now, things are going well and I don’t long to go back to being an employee. I also have the goal of working more “reasonably” and hopefully for fun and interesting companies.

Tell us about your background?
I am a lawyer but also have a technical education at KTH as I have always been interested in law and technology. When the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in 2018, I found a perfect combination of these two interests. During my time as a lawyer, I have worked at a law firm and at both large and small companies where data protection related issues have been the main focus. I also work as a registered data protection officer.
Why have you chosen to work as an independent consultant?
Combining the variety you get as a consultant with the freedom of self-employment is unbeatable in my world. Both in terms of work tasks but also the ability to control your own time.
Challenges or goals in sight?
My goal is to continue working with exciting companies and individuals to help and develop businesses to become even better.
